Fontainebleau 2017

Fontainebleau 2017

Day 1 – Rocher Fin After a bit of a slow morning, but with the great traditional breakfast of fresh coffee, sugary grapefruit and fried eggs on marmity toast we set off to Rocher Fin. It’s down as one of the longer walk ins in the Trois Pignons but it really didn’t seem that long. It’s was mostly a long trek along the Chemin De La Mée and then a little bit of faff at the end where we found…

Circuit des 25 Bosses: Simultaneously the best and worst long training run of my life.

Circuit des 25 Bosses: Simultaneously the best and worst long training run of my life.

I needed to do a 32k long run while out on holiday in France. We’re right next to a lovely wood, but also not far away from the Trois Pignon where loads of awesome climbing areas are. While pondering what route to plot out, Andy suggested I run the “Circuit des 25 Bosses”. Checking it out, it appears to be a circuit around 25 “mounds” in the Trois Pignon, taking in a lot of the climbing areas. What a great…

August and July Round Up

August and July Round Up

Christ, what happened to July and August?   They’ve just flown by like crazy in a haze of work, course, climbing and running related busyness, and still I’m rushing!  Ok, well here is a quick round up of the last two months:

Grenochase 2017

Grenochase 2017

The Grenochase is sort of the local run for Andy, being just up the hill from his. Usually it clashes with the Tramlines festival, so it gets ignored but this year there was no clash, so he signed up. And then Martin followed, and then under some pressure Liz and I joined up. Friday soon rolled around, and we all found ourselves scrabbling to leave work early to get to Andy’s so we could get changed and begin the walk…

Review: Rock My Run

Review: Rock My Run

While reading a couple of throwaway articles about “improving/maximising your running” or something, I stumbled on a mention of an app called “Rock my Run”. It was talking about using music to improve your running, suggesting that decent cadence matched songs can really help with your focus. I’ve been running with music for years and have noticed my strides dropping in and out of step with the music, sometimes significantly affecting my pace or stride length which is really going…

Last Minute Races: The Oxspring Hunshelf Amble

Last Minute Races: The Oxspring Hunshelf Amble

There I was, working on my massage write ups when up popped a message from Lindsey.  “Are you running the Oxspring Hunshelf Amble tomorrow?”.  You can imagine how the rest of that conversation went! I couldn’t get to the start without help, so Lindsey offered to pick me up from Lidl carpark in Stocksbridge.  That meant a quick tram and bus from home at about 8:30, meeting for the pick up at almost 9:30. It was a short drive from…

June Round Up

June Round Up

A quick round up of June, a little late, but I’ve been busy! Running June included two rather large milestones for running. Firstly, I’m signed up to the You Vs The Year Challenge on Endomondo/MapMyRun which is where the header for these Round Up posts comes from. The challenge was to complete 1017km of running in 2017, which I completely this month. I’m a good 150+ km ahead of where I was distance wise this year. I’m also tracking distance…

Round Sheffield Run 2017

Round Sheffield Run 2017

Surprising how fast it comes around really. Suddenly it was Round Sheffield Run 2017 on Sunday. Arrgh! Actually, I felt pretty comfortable. Despite still feeling lingeringly dehydrated and a bit sore from the climbing and running over the weekend I was just simply looking forward to it. I usually have nerves and butterflies in the run up to a race, but not this time. I think it’s because I was really looking forward to it, and hadn’t really piled any…

Dark Peak Trail Run 2017

Dark Peak Trail Run 2017

This week I was supposed to be tapering. The training plan I’ve been following for most of this year was for the Round Sheffield Run; a staged 20k run over 24k on the 25th of June. It’s a great race, and I wanted to do well on it, so was trying to keep to a plan to help. This week was my taper week, but I couldn’t resist. Martin of Run, Climb and More had been seriously bitten by the…

Hills and Mills: A mini running holiday

Hills and Mills: A mini running holiday

Liz had an exam this week, one of many on her accountancy qualification, and she likes to take a little bit of time off after each exam to unwind following the intense period of studying and stress. We’d initially talked about going to Tintern and doing the Tintern Abbey run from the Wild Running book but by the time we’d actually got our act together, the trains had got really expensive and the B&B we were looking at was sold…
