Welcome to the 20s

Welcome to the 20s

What an odd year for running and climbing. Reflecting back on it, I feel like it’s been a bit of a crap year for my running. Running Reflections Except, it really hasn’t: One of my targets at the start of the year post was like the past 2 years, to run the year again in km. Yep, did it: 2023km in 2019. Then, in mid June, I destroyed my 5k time while testing the new Loxley Lash 5k course with…

An evening at Curbar

An evening at Curbar

The nice weather from the weekend continued into Monday meaning that our usual trip to The Climbing Works would have been a rather hot and sweaty affair, so we decided that we should keep up the good work and go out again. Liz and Martin had been plotting where to go and selected the “Cioch Top Boulders” at Curbar. Curbar isn’t too far from Sheffield, so we could get there in a reasonable time. I’m always a little nervous of…

Sporadic Updates, Sporadic Climbing and shed load of running

Sporadic Updates, Sporadic Climbing and shed load of running

It’s been an awful long time since I’ve updated here. It’s also had been an awful long time since I bouldered! The running kinda took over in 2013, culminating with running and completing the my first Marathon, the first York Marathon. I’d set myself a public goal of under 4hrs 30mins, and a private target of actually breaking 4 hours, and surprisingly I managed it! All the training for that though made a lot of climbing a bit more difficult….

A critical error has occurred: Operation Fail.

A critical error has occurred: Operation Fail.

I’ve been meaning to post in here for ages.  I’ve been doing quite a bit of climbing recently, bouldering twice a week and getting back on the leading band wagon.  Frankly, it’s been great.   Even better, I’ve booked another climbing holiday:  10 days out bouldering again in Fontainebleau taking advantage of the long Easter weekend and that random wedding thing. It’s getting close to the end of the financial year and I had 8 days of holiday to take, so…

Ouchie

Ouchie

My shoulder is rather sore tonight. Familiar pain when extending my arm backwards, or lifting it when extended. Oh dear. I did promised myself to take it each at the Climbing Works this morning, but it never ends up like that.

AC joints!

AC joints!

Had some xrays. Seems this is the culprit: You could see in the xray that the bone in the picture with the red arrow was misaligned. Apparently the Doctor I was seeing had done this to both his shoulders and was rather unconcerned. It doesn’t impede me and I don’t notice it when climbing at all. Just need to keep my eye on it!

Good News / Bad News

Good News / Bad News

Went to the Doctors this morning to check out this pesky shoulder of mine. Bad News: He reckons I've got a Labral Tear; a tear in the little cup of cartilage that surrounds your shoulder joint. I've probably done it by falling on my arm at some point while bouldering, rather than as a direct result of climbing. He's referring me to a 'shoulder Dr' to have a look at it. I might need an ultrasound or MRI scan to…
