Hills Made Easy with Accelerate Part 1.

Hills Made Easy with Accelerate Part 1.

On Thursday evening I went on the first part of a workshop run by Accelerate called “Hills Made Easy”. Now, I’ve always enjoyed runs with decent hills in, and considered myself at least passable at getting up them, so I really had no idea whether this was going to be useful or not. The girlfriend on the other hand, doesn’t like hills at all, so was really interested in some coaching advice on how to deal with them, so I…

March 2017 Round Up

March 2017 Round Up

March done with and still going, although my feet are pretty sore! I’ve still not managed to shake the niggling ankle injury I’ve had for a long time now, but I’ve promised myself to take a rest (ish) after the Sheffield Half Marathon in a couple of days. Running 240km run this month, which is the most I’ve done since 2014, also March coincidentally.  That was the month of my first Embrace Sports trainingholiday which will have pushed up my…

Saucony Stride Lab

Saucony Stride Lab

My local running shop, Up and Running are hosting the Saucony Stride Lab this week and offering free analysis slots, so I jumped at the chance to get a review of my running form.  You can see more details of the Stride Lab on their website, but this is it in a nutshell: An innovative gait assessment system providing an in depth analysis of a runners unique stride characteristics. The high level of feedback provided to runners can improve running advice…

February 2017 Round Up

February 2017 Round Up

2017 definitely has started rolling now, with the weeks picking up speed as they go past.    It’s been a pretty good month from a training point of view, right up to the last week. Running Plenty of running happening this month in line with my training plan, right up to the last week.  After a final ‘easy’ 15k run on the 24th, which for the last few k felt very hard indeed (despite being being quite low on the HR…

January 2017 Round Up

January 2017 Round Up

31st of January 2017, what have I been up to? Running! Firstly, running! Lots of running! I joined the “You Vs the Year 2017” challenge which challenges you to run 1017km over the year and the #run1000miles 2017 Trail Mag challenge. I did the YVTY challenge last year and managed it, so now of the same! Last year it was tracked in Endomondo, but it appears to have moved to MapMyRun this time (which is annoying because I don’t really…

End of 2016, looking forward to 2017..

So, the end of the year is here. What have I achieved? Good and Bad Lots of training for improving my 5k time to beat 20min 5k, which then I didn’t actually really try in the end Another fabulous Embrace Sports running holiday A brand new 10k PB thanks to the 5k training Trying out the Round Sheffield Run for the first time which turned out to be bloody brilliant fun Picking up some sort of lingering ankle injury from…

The new Sheffield 10k, 2016

The new Sheffield 10k, 2016

I’ve been 5k training since the Round Sheffield Run back in July as I’ve never managed to beat 20mins. The idea was to train a bit and once I got to the end of the Endomondo training plan do a Rother Valley (reasonably flat) parkrun. Somewhere along the line, I got convinced to sign up for the Sheffield 10k, so tweaked my 5k plan to land on this date, figuring that the speed work on that plan should help with…

Beastmaker!

Beastmaker!

I bought a beastmaker 1000 over a year ago and never managed to get the DIY know it how to put it up anywhere. It’s surprisingly scary to attempt to fix something to the wall of your old 1930s terraced house and then decide it’s fixed well enough for you to hang your weight on. Plus, power drills are scary 😉 However, being as I was having loads of work done on my house this month, I broke and got…

Fontainebleau Trip 2015

Fontainebleau Trip 2015

Just a quick back dated post as I’m writing this in in January 2017! I promise to get better at keeping my blog more up to date 🙂 At the end of 2015 we went back to Fontainebleau. This time it wasn’t with the Bristol gang, instead with the people I climb with in Sheffield. Ed, Kelly, Liz, Martin and Andy. We stopped in Maisonbleau again, where we made friends with a bunch of local kittens. Sadly, this appeared to…

2015 so far…

2015 so far…

So, what’s been going on with my climbing and running in 2015? Back Problems I’ve had a back problem bothering me for much of this year so far. After period of being hunched over a laptop for a good while working on photos back in August/September last year, my back had been bothering me, and it all kind of came to a head in Feburary this year. After a consultation with an osteopath, I was advised to lay off the…
