June Round Up

June Round Up

A quick round up of June, a little late, but I’ve been busy! Running June included two rather large milestones for running. Firstly, I’m signed up to the You Vs The Year Challenge on Endomondo/MapMyRun which is where the header for these Round Up posts comes from. The challenge was to complete 1017km of running in 2017, which I completely this month. I’m a good 150+ km ahead of where I was distance wise this year. I’m also tracking distance…

An evening at Curbar

An evening at Curbar

The nice weather from the weekend continued into Monday meaning that our usual trip to The Climbing Works would have been a rather hot and sweaty affair, so we decided that we should keep up the good work and go out again. Liz and Martin had been plotting where to go and selected the “Cioch Top Boulders” at Curbar. Curbar isn’t too far from Sheffield, so we could get there in a reasonable time. I’m always a little nervous of…

Bouldering at Burbage: again!

Bouldering at Burbage: again!

I could spy that the weather was going to be… well, not rainy, so had primed people to prepare for a trip outdoors on Saturday. If it was just Liz and I, we planned to go to Burbage Boulders again, mainly because it was easily accessible via public transport, but also because there is loads of lower sized boulders which are good for Liz getting her head sorted. Also, I seemed to be developing a few little projects there (Pock…

May 2017 Round Up

May 2017 Round Up

May FLEW by like Usain Bolt, and although it started strongly after my April rest fornight, I was quickly sidelined with a nasty chest cold which lingered for about a week and a half and clashed with a race I’d been looking forward to for a couple of months. Running I covered 177k in May, irritatingly short of the 200k needed for the monthly distance Strava badge.  This was pretty much down to the previously mentioned cold which hit me…

Some bank holiday gritstone at Burbage Valley

Some bank holiday gritstone at Burbage Valley

It was Martin’s birthday, and quite conveniently the weather was nice so we got the opportunity to head out into the Peaks for some bouldering. He’s been aiming to take his son out to Kingergarten at Burbage South Quarries for a while, we planned to go up there first, before moving down to Burbage Boulders the the rest of the afternoon. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kelly D (@delanthear) We got there at about 12 and…

April 2017 Round Up

April 2017 Round Up

This is a little late for my April round up, but I’ve been really busy with other things. April has mostly been the Sheffield Half Marathon and then a recover fortnight off! Running April kicked off with the Sheffield Half Marathon which you can read all about on my blog post. My plan for April was to take a 2 week break after the race to try and give my sore ankles a bit of rest before ramping the training…

Bouldering at Birchen

Bouldering at Birchen

It’s Easter weekend, and… it’s rainy as usual! Oh wait, look! The Saturday forecast has cleared QUICK GRAB A MAT! With the long weekend coming up, we blocked out the four days hoping for a break in the inevitable British weather so we could get some bouldering in, and today we got that break! A bunch of us decided to set off to Birchen Edge first thing. It’s about a 40 minute drive there, with a decent size car park…

March 2017 Round Up

March 2017 Round Up

March done with and still going, although my feet are pretty sore! I’ve still not managed to shake the niggling ankle injury I’ve had for a long time now, but I’ve promised myself to take a rest (ish) after the Sheffield Half Marathon in a couple of days. Running 240km run this month, which is the most I’ve done since 2014, also March coincidentally.  That was the month of my first Embrace Sports trainingholiday which will have pushed up my…

First outdoor session of 2017

First outdoor session of 2017

This past weekend we have GREAT weather so we went out bouldering to Stanage! We expected it to be heaving, being the first warmer weekend of the year but it actually wasn’t that bad. We even found parking in Hollin Bank car park. Bonkers. First my headed up to the Pebble area and warmed up on the easy problems on the back of The Business Boulder. These are always a nice set of climbs to try to remember how to…

February 2017 Round Up

February 2017 Round Up

2017 definitely has started rolling now, with the weeks picking up speed as they go past.    It’s been a pretty good month from a training point of view, right up to the last week. Running Plenty of running happening this month in line with my training plan, right up to the last week.  After a final ‘easy’ 15k run on the 24th, which for the last few k felt very hard indeed (despite being being quite low on the HR…
