Onward and upwards!

May 30th, 2008

Had a couple of sessions since last update. The most significant events which are:

  1. Finally completing a 6b+ lead up the main wall at the Foundry. I’m just not strong/fit enough to climb this wall well yet, so this is a real milestone for me
  2. Leading a 7a climb in the furnace at the Foundry in three pieces. It was an exercise in working it out, so there was 2 moments where I just sat on the rope to work out the next set of moves. No falling off though!

I’m so chuffed about the 7a, even though it wasn’t a clean climb. This means there are 2 7a’s in the Furnace which I can climb in theory; I just need to execute a clean climb on them. I’m aiming to get the easier one of those done today…

In the mean time, enjoy another climbing video. This time just a top roped 6b.

A short break.

May 23rd, 2008

Since I got my new shoes, I’ve noticed the joint on my right toe getting quite sore. So, for the last week and a bit I decided to have a bit of a break from climbing to see if it calmed down a bit. In total I’ve missed 5 sessions I usually attends in that time, and climbing again on this Wednesday.

Well, I can say having a break has made a different to the toe, and to general achyness from the climbing. However, climbing yesterday was HARD. We were leading on the main wall and I just didn’t have the strength/stamina to keep it up.

We did a couple of 6a’s, 6a+’s and a 6b, so was ok for getting back into it. More climbing tonight. I hope my sore legs from running don’t get in the way.

Remembering how to run

May 23rd, 2008

It’s been about a year since I last went running, and something came over me last night to start it up again. So, I grabbed a running partner from work and went for it. My handy Garmin 205 captured the following:

My running route
Not so bad for the first run in about a year. I’m viewing this as a way to build up my stamina a bit. Expect more running posts on here I guess.

7a….

This Sunday… i was sooooo close at leading that 7a. I managed it with one fall and one rope rest. Tomorrow… it’s mine!
